Typing Text GIF Maker
Type your words, choose the speed, cursor and colors, and download a typewriter animation.

Drawn and encoded in your browser. Nothing you type is uploaded.
Make a Typing Text GIF in Your Browser
Type a word or a few lines, watch them appear letter by letter, and save the animation as a GIF. Every frame is drawn and encoded on your device, so your text is never uploaded and the file has no watermark. Change any setting and the preview redraws at once, so what you see is what you download. The result plays anywhere GIFs work: chats, slides, emails and video editors.
How to Make a Typing Text GIF
1. Type your text
Enter your words in the text box. Press Enter for a new line; long lines wrap to fit the canvas. Each character becomes one frame, and past 120 characters a note warns that encoding will take longer.
2. Set speed, font and colors
Choose the delay per character, a cursor style, a font and size, colors and a canvas size. The live preview redraws after every change, so you can compare settings quickly.
3. Generate and download
Select Generate GIF. A progress bar counts the frames as they are encoded, and Cancel stops the job at any point. Check the frame count, loop length and file size, then download.
Every Setting That Controls the Typing Effect
What each control changes in the finished animation.
Typing speed
From 20 to 500 ms per character, in 10 ms steps because GIF timing is stored in hundredths of a second. Around 60–120 ms reads like natural typing; 200 ms or more feels like an old terminal.
Cursor style and blink
Choose off, a bar, an underscore or a block. The cursor stays solid while letters appear, then blinks up to five times during the end pause; zero keeps it solid.
Font and font size
Sans, Serif or Mono, drawn from fonts installed on your device, because a web font that is still loading can leave blank frames. Size runs from 16 to 160 pixels.
Text color, outline and background
Pick the text color, an outline up to 12 pixels in its own color, and the background. An outline keeps light lettering readable over busy footage.
Canvas size
Use 800 × 450, 600 × 600, 1080 × 1080 or 1200 × 630, or enter a custom size up to 4096 × 4096 pixels. Bigger canvases take longer to encode.
Loop count and end pause
Loop forever, or play once, three or five times. The end pause holds the finished text for 0 to 10 half-second beats, so viewers can read it before the next loop.
Typing Text GIF vs a GIF With Text Added On
Three similar-sounding jobs, and which one this page does.
Create typing text from scratch
This page starts with a blank canvas and your words. The only movement is the text appearing letter by letter, plus an optional blinking cursor.
Add text on top of an existing GIF
Layering words over frames you already have is a different task, and it is not offered on this site at the moment.
Keep only part of an existing GIF
If your animation is fine but too long, the GIF Trimmer keeps one section by seconds or frame numbers, with the original delays.
Where Typing Text GIFs Get Used
Loading messages in chat apps
A looping "Loading..." or "typing..." line makes a playful reply in Slack, Discord or team chats. A small canvas keeps the file light.
Typed captions for streams and videos
Turn on the transparent background, add an outline, set it to play once, and add the file to OBS or a video editor as a title.
Emphasis in social posts
A punchline revealed one letter at a time draws the eye in a feed. Use the 1080 × 1080 preset, large text and a long end pause.
GIF Output Limits Worth Knowing
The format is old and simple. These are its tradeoffs.
256 colors per GIF
Plain text uses far fewer colors, so they are usually kept exactly; color emoji may be mapped to the nearest one. No dithering is applied, so letters stay free of speckles.
Minimum frame delay
Delays are stored in 10 ms steps, and most browsers slow anything under 20 ms to about 100 ms, so 20 ms is the fastest speed here.
1-bit transparency and edges
A GIF pixel is fully transparent or fully opaque, so on a transparent background edge pixels are snapped to solid or clear. Text looks slightly jagged, but without a white fringe.
Longer text means a bigger file
Every character adds a frame. To bring a finished file under an upload limit, run it through the GIF Compressor.
Typing Text GIF FAQ
Speed, loops, transparency, fonts and privacy.
Can I choose how fast the text types out?
Yes. Set 20 to 500 milliseconds per character in 10 ms steps; lower numbers type faster. The end pause is separate, so fast typing can still stay on screen long enough to read.
Does it keep my loop count?
Yes. Forever, once, three or five times is written into the GIF file. The preview always repeats for checking, but the download plays exactly as many times as you chose.
Can I make the background transparent?
Yes. Turn on Transparent background to save the GIF with 1-bit transparency, ready to place over video or a web page. Letter edges are not antialiased in this mode.
Can I use emoji in the text?
You can, using your device's emoji font, but emoji are not a main feature. A GIF holds only 256 colors, so detailed emoji may lose shading.
Can I change the font?
Choose Sans, Serif or Mono, taken from fonts installed on your device. Web fonts are not loaded, so the exact typeface can differ slightly between devices.
Why does the text look jagged on a transparent background?
GIF cannot store partly transparent pixels, so smooth edges are rounded to solid or clear. An outline or a solid background gives smoother-looking letters.
Is my text uploaded to a server?
No. Drawing and encoding run in your browser, nothing you type is sent to a server, and the finished file is saved straight to your device.
What is the difference between this and adding text to an existing GIF?
This tool builds a new animation from text alone. Adding a caption over an existing GIF's frames is not offered on this site; to shorten a GIF, use the GIF Trimmer.
Can I use it on my phone?
Yes, in current mobile browsers such as Safari on iPhone and Chrome on Android. On older phones, a smaller canvas and shorter text encode faster.
